H-1B Filings Are Way Down

As of April 6, 2010, CIS reported that it had received a total of 9,525 cap-subject H-1B petitions- 6,791 for the "regular" cap and 2,734 for the Masters cap. These numbers are a testiment to the weak US economy. In FYI 2008, the cap of 65,000 was met within 24 hours of the April 1 filing date. This is bad news for the economy, but good news for foreign nationals who receive qualifying job offers later in the year, especially after graduation.
